El Gran Gatsby
Capítulo 1, Página 2
It
made
sense
to
find
a
place
in
the
city,
but
it
was
warm,
and
I
missed
the
countryside.
A
young
man
at
work
suggested
we
share
a
house
in
a
nearby
town.
It
seemed
like
a
good
idea.
He
found
a
small
house
for
eighty
dollars
a
month.
But
before
we
moved,
he
was
sent
to
Washington,
so
I
went
alone.
I
had
a
dog
for
a
few
days
until
it
ran
away,
an
old
car,
and
a
Finnish
woman
who
cooked
and
cleaned.
I
felt
lonely
for
a
day
or
so,
until
one
morning
a
man,
who
was
newer
than
me,
stopped
me
on
the
road.
"How
do
you
get
to
West
Egg
village?"
he
asked.
I
told
him.
As
I
walked
on,
I
didn't
feel
lonely
anymore.
I
was
a
guide,
a
pathfinder.
He
had
given
me
a
sense
of
belonging
in
the
neighborhood.
With
the
sunshine
and
the
leaves
on
the
trees,
I
felt
like
life
was
starting
again
with
the
summer.
There
was
a
lot
to
read
and
enjoy
in
the
fresh
air.
I
bought
many
books
on
banking
and
investments.
They
looked
like
new
money
on
my
shelf,
promising
secrets
only
rich
people
knew.
I
planned
to
read
many
other
books
too.
I
was
into
literature
in
college.
I
once
wrote
serious
articles
for
the
Yale
News.
Now
I
wanted
to
bring
that
back
into
my
life
and
become
a
"well-rounded
man."
Life
is
better
when
seen
from
one
clear
window.
