El Gran Gatsby
Capítulo 3, Página 16
"Ladies
and
gentlemen,"
he
shouted.
"At
Mr.
Gatsby’s
request,
we
will
play
Mr.
Vladmir
Tostoff’s
latest
work.
It
was
very
popular
at
Carnegie
Hall
last
May.
If
you
read
the
papers,
you
know
it
was
a
big
sensation."
He
smiled
warmly
and
added,
"Some
sensation!"
Everyone
laughed.
"The
piece
is
called,"
he
finished
loudly,
"‘Vladmir
Tostoff’s
Jazz
History
of
the
World!’ "
I
didn’t
understand
Mr.
Tostoff’s
music
because,
as
it
started,
I
saw
Gatsby.
He
stood
alone
on
the
marble
steps,
looking
at
each
group
with
happy
eyes.
His
skin
was
tanned
and
smooth,
and
his
short
hair
seemed
freshly
cut.
He
didn’t
look
dangerous.
I
wondered
if
not
drinking
made
him
different
from
his
guests
because
he
seemed
more
proper
as
the
party
got
wilder.
When
the
"Jazz
History
of
the
World"
ended,
girls
rested
their
heads
on
men’s
shoulders,
playing
and
laughing,
but
no
one
did
that
with
Gatsby.
No
girl
leaned
on
his
shoulder,
and
no
group
sang
with
him.
"I
beg
your
pardon."
Gatsby’s
butler
stood
beside
us
suddenly.
"Miss
Baker?"
he
asked.
"I
beg
your
pardon,
but
Mr.
Gatsby
wants
to
speak
to
you
alone."
