El Gran Gatsby
Capítulo 8, Página 18
Michaelis
stood
behind
him
and
saw
he
was
looking
at
Doctor
T.
J.
Eckleburg’s
eyes,
big
and
pale
in
the
morning
light.
“God
sees
everything,”
Wilson
repeated.
“That’s
an
advertisement,”
Michaelis
said.
He
turned
away
from
the
window
and
looked
back
into
the
room.
But
Wilson
stood
there
a
long
time,
nodding
into
the
twilight.
By
six,
Michaelis
was
tired
and
happy
to
hear
a
car
stop
outside.
It
was
one
of
the
men
from
last
night,
who
promised
to
return.
He
made
breakfast
for
three,
which
he
and
the
other
man
ate.
Wilson
was
quieter,
so
Michaelis
went
home
to
sleep.
When
he
came
back
four
hours
later,
Wilson
was
gone.
Wilson
walked
all
the
time.
People
later
found
he
went
to
Port
Roosevelt
and
then
to
Gad’s
Hill.
He
bought
a
sandwich
he
didn’t
eat
and
a
cup
of
coffee.
He
was
tired
and
slow,
so
he
reached
Gad’s
Hill
by
noon.
Boys
saw
a
man
“acting
sort
of
crazy,”
and
motorists
saw
him
staring
from
the
road.
Then
he
disappeared
for
three
hours.
Police
thought
he
went
from
garage
to
garage,
asking
about
a
yellow
car.
But
no
one
saw
him,
so
maybe
he
had
another
way
to
find
out.
By
half-past
two,
he
was
in
West
Egg,
asking
for
Gatsby’s
house.
By
then,
he
knew
Gatsby’s
name.
At
two,
Gatsby
put
on
his
bathing
suit
and
told
the
butler
to
bring
any
calls
to
him
at
the
pool.
He
stopped
at
the
garage
for
a
mattress
his
guests
liked
during
summer,
and
the
chauffeur
helped
him
pump
it
up.
He
said
the
open
car
wasn’t
to
be
used,
which
was
strange
because
it
needed
repair.
