El Gran Gatsby
Capítulo 1, Página 14
“Tom’s
getting
very
deep,”
said
Daisy,
with
a
sad
look.
“He
reads
books
with
long
words.
What
was
that
word
we—”
“These
books
are
scientific,”
Tom
insisted,
looking
at
her
impatiently.
“This
guy
figured
everything
out.
It’s
up
to
us,
the
dominant
race,
to
be
careful
or
other
races
will
take
control.”
“We
have
to
stop
them,”
whispered
Daisy,
winking
at
the
hot
sun.
“You
should
live
in
California—”
started
Miss
Baker,
but
Tom
interrupted
by
shifting
in
his
chair.
“The
idea
is
that
we’re
Nordics.
I
am,
you
are,
and
you
are,”
he
said,
hesitating
slightly
before
including
Daisy
with
a
nod.
She
winked
at
me
again.
“We’ve
created
everything
that
makes
civilization—science,
art,
all
that.
Understand?”
There
was
something
sad
in
his
focus,
as
if
his
old
confidence
wasn’t
enough
anymore.
Just
then,
the
phone
rang
inside,
and
the
butler
left
the
porch.
Daisy
used
the
interruption
to
lean
toward
me.
