El Gran Gatsby
Capítulo 1, Página 19
The
horses,
of
course,
were
not
mentioned
again.
Tom
and
Miss
Baker,
with
the
twilight
between
them,
walked
back
into
the
library,
as
if
to
keep
watch
beside
a
real
body,
while
I
tried
to
look
interested
and
slightly
deaf,
following
Daisy
through
connecting
verandas
to
the
front
porch.
In
its
deep
shadow,
we
sat
side
by
side
on
a
wicker
settee.
Daisy
held
her
face
in
her
hands
as
if
feeling
its
lovely
shape,
and
her
eyes
slowly
moved
into
the
dark
evening.
I
saw
she
was
filled
with
emotions,
so
I
asked
what
I
thought
would
be
calming
questions
about
her
little
girl.
“We
don’t
know
each
other
very
well,
Nick,”
she
said
suddenly.
“Even
if
we
are
cousins.
You
didn’t
come
to
my
wedding.”
“I
wasn’t
back
from
the
war.”
“That’s
true.”
She
paused.
“Well,
I’ve
had
a
very
bad
time,
Nick,
and
I’m
pretty
cynical
about
everything.”
She
clearly
had
her
reasons.
I
waited,
but
she
didn’t
say
more,
so
after
a
moment,
I
weakly
returned
to
the
topic
of
her
daughter.
