El Gran Gatsby
Capítulo 1, Página 26
It
was
already
deep
summer
on
the
roofs
of
roadhouses
and
in
front
of
garages
by
the
road.
New
red
petrol
pumps
stood
in
pools
of
light.
When
I
got
to
my
place
at
West
Egg,
I
parked
the
car
in
its
shed.
Then
I
sat
for
a
while
on
an
old
grass
roller
in
the
yard.
The
wind
had
stopped,
leaving
a
loud,
bright
night.
I
heard
wings
in
the
trees
and
a
constant
sound
like
an
organ.
The
earth
seemed
to
fill
the
frogs
with
life.
A
cat's
shadow
moved
in
the
moonlight.
As
I
turned
to
watch
it,
I
saw
I
wasn’t
alone.
About
fifty
feet
away,
a
figure
came
out
of
the
shadows
of
my
neighbor’s
mansion.
He
stood
with
his
hands
in
his
pockets,
looking
at
the
stars.
Something
about
the
way
he
moved
and
stood
on
the
lawn
made
me
think
it
was
Mr.
Gatsby
himself.
He
seemed
to
be
checking
which
part
of
the
sky
belonged
to
him.
I
thought
about
calling
out
to
him.
Miss
Baker
had
mentioned
him
at
dinner,
and
that
would
be
a
good
way
to
start
a
conversation.
But
I
didn’t
call
out
because
he
suddenly
showed
he
wanted
to
be
alone.
He
stretched
his
arms
toward
the
dark
water
in
a
strange
way.
Even
from
far
away,
I
could
have
sworn
he
was
shaking.
I
looked
out
to
the
sea
and
saw
only
a
single
green
light,
small
and
far
away.
It
might
have
been
at
the
end
of
a
dock.
When
I
looked
back
for
Gatsby,
he
was
gone,
and
I
was
alone
again
in
the
restless
night.
