El Gran Gatsby
Capítulo 5, Página 19
Inside,
as
we
walked
through
the
music
rooms
and
salons,
I
felt
like
guests
were
hiding,
waiting
silently
for
us
to
pass.
When
Gatsby
closed
the
door
of
the
library,
I
thought
I
heard
the
owl-eyed
man
laugh
softly.
We
went
upstairs,
passing
rooms
decorated
in
rose
and
lavender
silk,
filled
with
fresh
flowers.
We
saw
dressing
rooms,
pool
rooms,
and
bathrooms
with
sunken
baths.
In
one
room,
a
man
in
pajamas
was
doing
exercises.
It
was
Mr.
Klipspringer,
the
"boarder."
I
had
seen
him
wandering
on
the
beach
earlier.
Finally,
we
reached
Gatsby's
own
apartment,
which
had
a
bedroom,
a
bath,
and
a
study.
We
sat
there
and
drank
Chartreuse
that
Gatsby
took
from
a
cupboard.
Gatsby
couldn't
stop
looking
at
Daisy.
I
think
he
was
judging
everything
in
his
house
based
on
her
reactions.
Sometimes
he
looked
around
at
his
things,
almost
confused,
as
if
they
weren't
real
with
her
there.
Once,
he
nearly
fell
down
the
stairs.
His
bedroom
was
the
simplest
room,
except
for
a
dresser
with
a
gold
toilet
set.
Daisy
picked
up
the
brush
happily
and
smoothed
her
hair.
Gatsby
sat
down,
covered
his
eyes,
and
laughed.
"It's
the
funniest
thing,
old
sport,"
he
said,
laughing.
"I
can't—When
I
try
to—"
He
had
gone
through
two
emotions
and
was
feeling
a
third.
After
his
embarrassment
and
his
joy,
he
was
amazed
by
her
presence.
He
had
imagined
this
moment
for
so
long,
waiting
with
great
intensity.
Now,
he
was
like
a
clock
that
had
been
wound
too
tight.
