El Gran Gatsby
Capítulo 7, Página 27
“What
do
I
owe
you?”
“Dollar
twenty.”
The
heat
was
making
me
confused,
and
I
had
a
bad
moment
before
I
realized
Tom
wasn't
suspected
yet.
Wilson
found
out
Myrtle
had
a
life
apart
from
him,
and
the
shock
made
him
sick.
I
looked
at
Wilson
and
then
at
Tom,
who
had
made
a
similar
discovery
less
than
an
hour
ago.
I
thought
there
was
no
difference
between
men,
in
intelligence
or
race,
as
big
as
the
difference
between
the
sick
and
the
well.
Wilson
looked
so
sick
that
he
seemed
guilty,
as
if
he
had
done
something
terrible.
"I'll
let
you
have
that
car,"
said
Tom.
"I'll
send
it
over
tomorrow
afternoon."
That
place
always
made
me
uneasy,
even
in
the
afternoon
sun.
I
turned
my
head
as
if
I
felt
something
behind
me.
Over
the
ash-heaps,
the
giant
eyes
of
Doctor
T.
J.
Eckleburg
watched
us,
but
I
noticed
other
eyes
looking
at
us
with
intensity
from
less
than
twenty
feet
away.
In
one
of
the
windows
above
the
garage,
the
curtains
had
moved
a
little,
and
Myrtle
Wilson
was
looking
down
at
the
car.
She
was
so
focused
that
she
didn’t
realize
she
was
being
watched.
Her
face
showed
different
emotions,
like
a
picture
developing
slowly.
Her
expression
was
familiar
to
me;
I
had
seen
it
on
many
women's
faces.
But
on
Myrtle’s
face,
it
seemed
strange
until
I
realized
her
eyes,
wide
with
jealous
fear,
were
fixed
not
on
Tom,
but
on
Jordan
Baker,
whom
she
thought
was
his
wife.
