El Gran Gatsby
Capítulo 7, Página 28
There
is
no
confusion
like
that
of
a
simple
mind,
and
as
we
drove
away,
Tom
felt
panic.
His
wife
and
his
mistress,
who
seemed
safe
until
an
hour
ago,
were
slipping
from
his
control.
Instinctively,
he
pressed
the
accelerator
to
catch
up
with
Daisy
and
leave
Wilson
behind.
We
sped
toward
Astoria
at
fifty
miles
an
hour
until
we
saw
the
easygoing
blue
coupé
among
the
elevated
structures.
"Those
big
movies
around
Fiftieth
Street
are
cool,"
suggested
Jordan.
"I
love
New
York
on
summer
afternoons
when
everyone’s
away.
It
feels
very
sensuous,
like
ripe
fruit
ready
to
fall
into
your
hands."
The
word
"sensuous"
made
Tom
more
uneasy,
but
before
he
could
protest,
the
coupé
stopped,
and
Daisy
signaled
us
to
pull
up
next
to
them.
"Where
are
we
going?"
she
shouted.
"How
about
the
movies?"
"It's
so
hot,"
she
complained.
"You
go.
We’ll
ride
around
and
meet
you
later."
She
tried
to
be
witty.
"We’ll
meet
you
on
some
corner.
I’ll
be
the
man
smoking
two
cigarettes."
