El Gran Gatsby
Capítulo 8, Página 8
“Well,
goodbye.”
We
shook
hands,
and
I
started
to
leave.
Just
before
reaching
the
hedge,
I
remembered
something
and
turned
around.
“They’re
a
rotten
crowd,”
I
shouted
across
the
lawn.
“You’re
worth
the
whole
bunch
put
together.”
I’ve
always
been
glad
I
said
that.
It
was
the
only
compliment
I
ever
gave
him
because
I
disapproved
of
him
from
beginning
to
end.
First,
he
nodded
politely,
then
his
face
broke
into
a
radiant,
understanding
smile,
as
if
we’d
always
agreed
on
that
fact.
His
bright
pink
suit
stood
out
against
the
white
steps,
and
I
thought
of
the
night
I
first
came
to
his
home
three
months
before.
The
lawn
and
drive
had
been
crowded
with
people
guessing
at
his
corruption,
but
he
stood
there,
hiding
his
incorruptible
dream,
waving
them
goodbye.
I
thanked
him
for
his
hospitality.
We
always
thanked
him
for
that—me
and
the
others.
“Goodbye,”
I
called.
“I
enjoyed
breakfast,
Gatsby.”
