El Gran Gatsby
Capítulo 1, Página 16
The
butler
returned
and
whispered
to
Tom,
who
frowned,
pushed
his
chair
back,
and
went
inside
without
a
word.
Daisy,
energized
by
his
absence,
leaned
forward,
her
voice
radiant
and
musical.
"I
love
having
you
at
my
table,
Nick.
You
remind
me
of
a
rose,
an
absolute
rose.
Doesn't
he?"
She
turned
to
Miss
Baker
for
confirmation:
"An
absolute
rose?"
This
wasn't
true.
I'm
not
even
slightly
like
a
rose.
She
was
improvising,
but
a
warm
feeling
flowed
from
her,
as
if
her
heart
was
reaching
out
through
those
thrilling
words.
Suddenly,
she
threw
her
napkin
on
the
table,
excused
herself,
and
went
inside.
Miss
Baker
and
I
exchanged
a
deliberate
glance.
I
was
about
to
speak
when
she
sat
up
and
said
"Sh!"
warningly.
A
passionate
murmur
was
audible
from
the
other
room,
and
Miss
Baker
leaned
forward,
trying
to
hear.
The
murmur
hovered
on
the
edge
of
clarity,
rose,
and
then
stopped.
"This
Mr.
Gatsby
you
mentioned
is
my
neighbor—"
I
began.
"Don't
talk.
I
want
to
hear
what
happens."
