El Gran Gatsby
Capítulo 7, Página 29
“We
can’t
argue
about
it
here,”
Tom
said
impatiently,
as
a
truck
behind
us
let
out
a
loud
whistle.
“Follow
me
to
the
south
side
of
Central
Park,
in
front
of
the
Plaza.”
Several
times
he
turned
his
head
to
look
back
for
their
car,
and
if
traffic
slowed
them
down,
he
would
slow
down
too
until
they
came
into
view.
I
think
he
was
afraid
they
might
turn
down
a
side
street
and
disappear
from
his
life
forever.
But
they
didn’t.
And
we
all
took
the
unexpected
step
of
renting
the
parlor
of
a
suite
in
the
Plaza
Hotel.
The
long,
chaotic
argument
that
ended
with
us
in
that
room
eludes
me,
though
I
vividly
remember
my
underwear
climbing
like
a
damp
snake
around
my
legs
and
sweat
beads
racing
coolly
down
my
back.
The
idea
started
with
Daisy’s
suggestion
that
we
rent
five
bathrooms
and
take
cold
baths,
then
turned
into
“a
place
to
have
a
mint
julep.”
Each
of
us
kept
saying
it
was
a
“crazy
idea”—we
all
talked
at
once
to
a
confused
clerk
and
thought,
or
pretended
to
think,
we
were
being
very
funny…
The
room
was
large
and
stifling,
and
even
though
it
was
already
four
o’clock,
opening
the
windows
only
let
in
a
gust
of
hot
air
from
the
Park.
Daisy
went
to
the
mirror
and
stood
with
her
back
to
us,
fixing
her
hair.
“It’s
a
nice
suite,”
whispered
Jordan
respectfully,
and
everyone
laughed.
