El Maravilloso Mago de Oz
Capítulo 14, Página 6
“That
is
a
long
story,”
answered
the
King,
with
a
laugh;
“but
as
we
have
a
long
journey,
I
will
tell
you
if
you
wish.”
“I
would
like
to
hear
it,”
she
replied.
“Once,”
began
the
leader,
“we
were
free,
living
happily
in
the
great
forest,
flying
from
tree
to
tree,
eating
nuts
and
fruit,
and
doing
what
we
wanted
without
a
master.
Some
of
us
liked
to
have
fun,
pulling
tails
of
animals
without
wings,
chasing
birds,
and
throwing
nuts
at
people
in
the
forest.
But
we
were
happy
and
enjoyed
every
day.
This
was
many
years
ago,
long
before
Oz
came
to
rule
this
land.
“There
lived
here
then,
in
the
North,
a
beautiful
princess
and
powerful
sorceress.
She
used
her
magic
to
help
people
and
never
hurt
anyone
good.
Her
name
was
Gayelette,
and
she
lived
in
a
palace
made
from
ruby.
Everyone
loved
her,
but
she
was
sad
because
she
could
find
no
one
to
love.
All
the
men
were
too
stupid
and
ugly
for
someone
so
beautiful
and
wise.
At
last,
she
found
a
boy
who
was
handsome,
manly,
and
wise.
Gayelette
decided
that
when
he
grew
up,
she
would
make
him
her
husband.
She
took
him
to
her
palace
and
used
her
magic
to
make
him
strong
and
good.
When
he
became
a
man,
Quelala,
as
he
was
called,
was
the
best
and
wisest
man
in
the
land,
and
Gayelette
loved
him
dearly.
She
prepared
for
their
wedding.
“My
grandfather
was
the
King
of
the
Winged
Monkeys
then,
and
he
loved
a
joke.
One
day,
before
the
wedding,
he
saw
Quelala
by
the
river.
Quelala
wore
pink
silk
and
purple
velvet,
and
my
grandfather
wanted
to
have
fun.
At
his
word,
the
band
flew
down,
took
Quelala,
carried
him
over
the
river,
and
dropped
him
into
the
water.
“‘Swim
out,
my
fine
fellow,’
cried
my
grandfather,
‘and
see
if
the
water
has
ruined
your
clothes.’
Quelala
was
wise
and
not
spoiled
by
good
fortune.
He
laughed,
swam
to
shore,
but
when
Gayelette
ran
to
him,
she
saw
his
clothes
were
ruined
by
the
river.
