El Maravilloso Mago de Oz
Capítulo 20, Página 3
“How
shall
we
get
down?”
asked
Dorothy.
The
ladder
was
too
heavy
to
pull
up,
so
the
Scarecrow
fell
off
the
wall,
and
the
others
jumped
down
onto
him
so
the
hard
floor
wouldn’t
hurt
their
feet.
They
were
careful
not
to
land
on
his
head
and
get
pins
in
their
feet.
Once
everyone
was
safely
down,
they
picked
up
the
Scarecrow,
whose
body
was
quite
flattened,
and
patted
his
straw
back
into
shape.
“We
must
cross
this
strange
place
to
get
to
the
other
side,”
said
Dorothy,
“because
it
would
be
unwise
to
go
any
other
way
except
due
South.”
They
started
walking
through
the
country
of
the
china
people,
and
the
first
thing
they
saw
was
a
china
milkmaid
milking
a
china
cow.
As
they
got
closer,
the
cow
suddenly
kicked,
knocking
over
the
stool,
the
pail,
and
even
the
milkmaid
herself.
Everything
fell
on
the
china
ground
with
a
loud
clatter.
Dorothy
was
shocked
to
see
the
cow
had
broken
its
leg,
and
the
pail
lay
in
several
small
pieces,
while
the
poor
milkmaid
had
a
chip
in
her
left
elbow.
“There!”
cried
the
milkmaid
angrily.
“Look
what
you’ve
done!
My
cow
has
broken
her
leg,
and
I
must
take
her
to
the
mender’s
shop
to
have
it
glued
back
on.
Why
did
you
come
here
and
frighten
my
cow?”
