Diego Desconectado

"I
can't
live
like
this,"
he
whispered,
pacing
his
room.
His
hands
kept
reaching
for
something
that
wasn't
there.
He
showed
the
phone
to
his
parents.
"Seriously,
Diego?"
his
dad
said,
frustrated.
"We're
not
paying
for
another
one."
His
mom
agreed.
"If
you
want
it
fixed,
you'll
have
to
pay
for
it
yourself,
sweetie."
He
wanted
to
scream,
but
he
didn't.
Diego
had
a
job
at
the
local
corner
store.
He
made
minimum
wage.
It
would
take
him
at
least
a
month
to
be
able
to
afford
the
repair.
What
was
he
going
to
do
until
then?
No
videos.
No
messages.
No
games.
No
noise
to
drown
out
the
silence.
