V.
THE
LETTER.
"Going
to
him!
Happy
letter!
Tell
him
—
Tell
him
the
page
I
did
not
write;
Tell
him
I
said
the
words,
But
left
out
some
parts.
Tell
him
how
fast
the
fingers
moved,
Then
how
they
slowed,
slow,
slow;
And
then
you
wished
you
had
eyes,
To
see
what
moved
them
so.
"Tell
him
it
was
not
easy,
You
guessed
from
the
way
it
looked;
You
could
hear
the
dress
pull,
Like
it
had
little
strength;
You
almost
felt
sorry,
you
did.
Tell
him
—
No,
you
may
not,
For
it
would
hurt
him,
And
then
we
are
quiet.
"Tell
him
night
came
before
we
finished,
And
the
clock
said
'day!'
And
you
got
sleepy
and
wanted
to
stop
—
What
could
stop
it,
to
say?
Tell
him
how
she
sealed
you,
careful,
But
if
he
asks
where
you
are
Until
tomorrow,
—
happy
letter!
Shake
your
head!"
