V.
THE
LETTER.
"Going
to
him!
Happy
letter!
Tell
him
—
Tell
him
the
page
I
didn't
write;
Tell
him
I
only
said
the
words,
And
left
the
rest
out.
Tell
him
how
fast
my
fingers
moved,
Then
how
they
slowed
down;
And
then
you
wished
you
could
see,
What
moved
them
so.
"Tell
him
it
wasn't
a
skilled
writer,
You
guessed,
from
how
it
struggled;
You
could
hear
the
dress
pull,
Like
a
child's
might;
You
almost
felt
sorry
for
it,
It
worked
so
hard.
Tell
him
—
No,
you
might
not,
For
it
would
break
his
heart,
And
then
we
would
be
quiet.
"Tell
him
night
came
before
we
finished,
And
the
clock
said
'day!'
And
you
got
sleepy
and
wanted
to
stop
—
What
could
it
hurt
to
say?
Tell
him
how
she
sealed
you,
careful,
But
if
he
asks
where
you
are
Until
tomorrow,
—
happy
letter!
Smile,
tease,
and
shake
your
head!"
