Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Red-Headed League
Capítulo 2, Página 24
“I’m
afraid
so.
I
brought
cards,
thinking
we
might
play
a
game,
but
the
situation
is
too
advanced
for
that.
We
must
choose
our
positions.
These
men
are
daring,
and
even
though
we
have
the
advantage,
they
might
harm
us
if
we’re
not
careful.
I’ll
stand
behind
this
crate;
you
hide
behind
those.
When
I
flash
the
light,
move
in
quickly.
If
they
shoot,
Watson,
don’t
hesitate
to
fire
back.”
I
placed
my
cocked
revolver
on
the
wooden
case
I
hid
behind.
Holmes
shut
the
lantern,
leaving
us
in
total
darkness.
The
smell
of
hot
metal
assured
us
the
light
was
ready
to
flash.
The
sudden
gloom
and
cold
air
made
me
feel
uneasy,
as
my
nerves
were
on
edge.
“They
have
only
one
way
out,”
Holmes
whispered.
“Back
through
the
house
to
Saxe-Coburg
Square.
Did
you
do
as
I
asked,
Jones?”
“I
have
an
inspector
and
two
officers
at
the
front
door.”
“Then
we’ve
blocked
all
exits.
Now
we
must
stay
silent
and
wait.”
The
time
felt
endless.
It
was
an
hour
and
a
quarter,
but
it
seemed
like
the
night
was
ending
and
dawn
was
near.
My
limbs
were
stiff,
as
I
didn’t
dare
move.
My
nerves
were
tense,
and
my
hearing
was
so
sharp
I
could
hear
my
companions
breathing.
I
could
tell
Jones’s
heavy
breaths
from
the
bank
director’s
lighter
ones.
Suddenly,
I
saw
a
glint
of
light.
At
first,
it
was
just
a
spark
on
the
stone
floor.
It
grew
into
a
yellow
line,
then
a
gap
opened,
and
a
hand
appeared.
It
was
white
and
delicate,
feeling
around
the
light.
After
a
minute,
it
vanished,
leaving
only
a
spark
marking
a
crack
between
the
stones.
The
hand’s
disappearance
was
brief.
With
a
tearing
sound,
a
large
stone
turned
over,
revealing
a
square
hole
and
a
lantern’s
light.
A
young
face
peeked
over
the
edge,
then
pulled
itself
up,
followed
by
another
man,
small
and
with
bright
red
hair.
