Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 18, Página 11
"Any
other
boy!"
Tom
thought,
grinding
his
teeth.
"Anyone
but
that
Saint
Louis
boy
who
thinks
he's
so
fancy!
Oh,
I
beat
you
the
first
day
you
came
here,
and
I'll
do
it
again!
Just
wait
until
I
catch
you
alone!"
And
he
pretended
to
fight
an
imaginary
boy—hitting
the
air
and
kicking.
"Oh,
you
give
up,
do
you?
Now,
let
that
teach
you!"
And
he
finished
the
pretend
fight,
feeling
satisfied.
Tom
ran
home
at
noon.
He
couldn't
stand
Amy's
happiness,
and
his
jealousy
was
too
much.
Becky
went
back
to
looking
at
pictures
with
Alfred,
but
as
time
passed
and
Tom
didn't
come,
her
happiness
faded.
She
felt
sad
and
bored.
She
listened
for
footsteps,
hoping
it
was
Tom,
but
he
never
came.
Finally,
she
felt
miserable
and
wished
she
hadn't
gone
so
far.
When
Alfred
tried
to
cheer
her
up,
she
lost
patience
and
said,
"Oh,
don't
bother
me!
I
don't
care!"
and
started
crying,
then
walked
away.
Alfred
tried
to
comfort
her,
but
she
said:
"Go
away
and
leave
me
alone!
I
hate
you!"
So
Alfred
stopped,
wondering
what
he
did
wrong,
since
she
said
she
would
look
at
pictures
all
noon.
Becky
walked
away,
crying.
Alfred
went
into
the
empty
schoolhouse.
He
felt
embarrassed
and
angry.
He
guessed
the
truth—the
girl
used
him
to
make
Tom
Sawyer
jealous.
This
made
him
hate
Tom
even
more.
He
wished
he
could
get
Tom
in
trouble
without
getting
caught.
Then
he
saw
Tom's
spelling
book.
Here
was
his
chance.
He
opened
it
to
the
afternoon
lesson
and
poured
ink
on
the
page.
Becky
saw
him
through
a
window
but
didn't
say
anything.
She
started
to
go
home,
thinking
to
tell
Tom.
He
would
be
thankful,
and
they
would
make
up.
But
before
she
got
home,
she
changed
her
mind.
She
remembered
how
Tom
treated
her
about
the
picnic
and
felt
ashamed.
She
decided
to
let
him
get
in
trouble
for
the
book
and
to
hate
him
forever.
