Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 22, Página 1
Tom
joined
the
Cadets
of
Temperance
because
he
liked
their
"regalia."
He
promised
not
to
smoke,
chew,
or
swear
while
he
was
a
member.
But
soon,
he
wanted
to
do
those
things
even
more.
The
only
thing
stopping
him
was
the
chance
to
wear
his
red
sash.
The
Fourth
of
July
was
coming,
but
he
gave
up
on
that.
Instead,
he
hoped
old
Judge
Frazer
would
die
soon.
The
Judge
was
important,
so
he
would
have
a
big
funeral.
For
three
days,
Tom
worried
about
the
Judge
and
wanted
news.
Sometimes
he
thought
the
Judge
would
die,
so
he
practiced
wearing
his
regalia
in
front
of
the
mirror.
But
the
Judge
got
better,
and
Tom
was
upset.
He
quit
the
Cadets,
and
that
night,
the
Judge
died.
Tom
decided
never
to
trust
someone
like
that
again.
The
funeral
was
impressive.
The
Cadets
marched
in
a
way
that
would
make
any
member
jealous.
Tom
was
free
again,
and
that
felt
good.
He
could
drink
and
swear
now,
but
he
found
he
didn't
want
to.
Just
knowing
he
could
do
it
made
him
lose
interest.
Tom
soon
noticed
that
his
free
time
was
getting
a
bit
boring.
He
tried
to
keep
a
diary,
but
nothing
happened
for
three
days,
so
he
stopped.
A
minstrel
show
came
to
town
and
caused
excitement.
Tom
and
Joe
Harper
made
their
own
band
and
had
fun
for
two
days.
Even
the
Fourth
of
July
was
a
letdown.
It
rained
hard,
so
there
was
no
parade.
Mr.
Benton,
a
U.S.
Senator,
was
there,
but
he
was
not
as
tall
as
Tom
thought
he
would
be.
A
circus
came
to
town.
The
boys
played
circus
for
three
days
with
tents
made
of
old
rugs.
They
charged
three
pins
for
boys
and
two
for
girls.
Then
they
stopped
playing
circus.
A
phrenologist
and
a
mesmerizer
visited
the
town
but
left
it
duller
than
before.
