Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 31, Página 3
“Oh,
don’t
do
it
again,
Tom,
it’s
too
scary,”
said
Becky.
“It
is
scary,
but
I
should,
Becky;
they
might
hear
us,”
and
he
shouted
again.
The
“might”
felt
scarier
than
the
echo.
The
children
listened,
but
nothing
happened.
Tom
turned
back
and
walked
quickly.
Soon,
Becky
saw
he
couldn’t
find
the
way
back.
“Oh,
Tom,
you
didn’t
make
any
marks!”
“Becky,
I
was
so
foolish!
I
never
thought
we
might
need
to
come
back!
No—I
can’t
find
the
way.
It’s
all
mixed
up.”
“Tom,
Tom,
we’re
lost!
We
can’t
get
out
of
here!
Why
did
we
leave
the
others?”
She
sat
down
and
cried
hard.
Tom
worried
she
might
get
sick
or
go
crazy.
He
sat
with
her
and
held
her.
She
buried
her
face
in
his
chest
and
told
him
her
fears.
The
echoes
made
it
sound
like
laughter.
Tom
asked
her
to
hope
again,
and
she
said
she
couldn’t.
He
blamed
himself
for
their
trouble,
which
helped
her
feel
better.
She
said
she
would
try
to
hope
and
follow
him
if
he
stopped
talking
like
that.
She
said
it
wasn’t
just
his
fault.
So
they
moved
on,
without
a
plan,
just
moving.
Hope
came
back
a
little,
not
because
of
reason,
but
because
hope
always
tries
to
come
back.
