Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 31, Página 2
"I
think
I
can,
but
the
bats
might
put
out
our
candles.
That
would
be
really
bad.
Let's
try
another
way
to
avoid
them."
"Okay.
But
I
hope
we
don't
get
lost.
That
would
be
terrible!"
The
thought
made
her
shiver.
They
started
through
a
corridor
and
walked
silently
for
a
long
time,
looking
at
each
new
opening
to
see
if
it
seemed
familiar,
but
everything
looked
strange.
Each
time
Tom
checked,
Becky
watched
his
face
for
a
positive
sign,
and
he
would
say
cheerfully:
"It's
okay.
This
isn't
the
one,
but
we'll
find
it
soon!"
But
with
each
failed
attempt,
Tom
felt
less
hopeful.
He
started
turning
into
random
passages,
hoping
desperately
to
find
the
right
one.
He
kept
saying
it
was
"all
right,"
but
his
heart
was
heavy,
and
his
words
sounded
like
"all
is
lost."
Becky
held
onto
him
in
fear,
trying
not
to
cry,
but
tears
came
anyway.
Finally,
she
said:
"Oh,
Tom,
forget
the
bats,
let's
go
back
that
way!
We
keep
getting
more
lost."
"Listen!"
he
said.
There
was
deep
silence,
so
quiet
they
could
hear
their
own
breathing.
Tom
shouted.
The
sound
echoed
through
the
empty
cave
and
faded
away,
sounding
like
distant
laughter.
