Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 31, Página 2
"I
think
I
could
find
it—but
then
there
are
the
bats.
If
they
put
our
candles
out,
we'll
be
in
big
trouble.
Let's
try
another
route
to
avoid
them."
"Okay.
But
I
hope
we
don't
get
lost.
That
would
be
terrible!"
she
said,
shivering
at
the
thought
of
what
could
happen.
They
entered
a
corridor
and
walked
in
silence
for
a
long
time,
checking
each
new
opening
for
anything
familiar,
but
everything
looked
strange.
Each
time
Tom
examined
a
passage,
Becky
watched
his
face
for
reassurance,
and
he
would
say
cheerfully:
"Oh,
it's
fine.
This
isn't
the
one,
but
we'll
find
it
soon!"
But
with
each
failure,
he
felt
less
optimistic
and
began
turning
down
random
paths
in
desperate
hope
of
finding
the
right
one.
He
kept
saying
it
was
"all
right,"
but
the
dread
in
his
heart
made
the
words
sound
like
"All
is
lost!"
Becky
clung
to
him,
terrified,
trying
not
to
cry,
but
tears
came
anyway.
Finally,
she
said:
"Oh,
Tom,
forget
the
bats,
let's
go
back
that
way!
We
keep
getting
more
lost."
"Listen!"
he
said.
Profound
silence;
so
deep
that
even
their
breaths
were
loud.
Tom
shouted.
The
call
echoed
down
the
empty
corridors
and
faded
away,
sounding
like
mocking
laughter.
