El Gran Gatsby
Capítulo 1, Página 20
“I
suppose
she
talks,
and
eats,
and
everything.”
“Oh,
yes.”
She
looked
at
me
absently.
“Listen,
Nick;
let
me
tell
you
what
I
said
when
she
was
born.
Would
you
like
to
hear?”
“Very
much.”
“It
will
show
you
how
I
feel
about
things.
She
was
less
than
an
hour
old,
and
Tom
was
nowhere.
I
woke
up
and
felt
alone.
I
asked
the
nurse
if
it
was
a
boy
or
a
girl.
She
said
it
was
a
girl,
so
I
turned
my
head
and
cried.
‘All
right,’
I
said,
‘I’m
glad
it’s
a
girl.
I
hope
she’ll
be
a
fool.
That’s
the
best
thing
a
girl
can
be
in
this
world,
a
beautiful
little
fool.’
“You
see,
I
think
everything’s
terrible,”
she
continued.
“Everybody
thinks
so—the
most
advanced
people.
And
I
know.
I’ve
been
everywhere
and
seen
everything.”
Her
eyes
flashed
around
like
Tom’s,
and
she
laughed.
“Sophisticated—God,
I’m
sophisticated!”
When
her
voice
stopped,
I
felt
she
wasn’t
sincere.
It
made
me
uneasy,
like
the
evening
was
a
trick.
I
waited,
and
soon
she
looked
at
me
with
a
smile,
as
if
she
was
part
of
a
special
group
with
Tom.
