El Gran Gatsby
Capítulo 1, Página 14
"Tom's
getting
very
profound,"
Daisy
said
with
an
expression
of
unthoughtful
sadness.
"He
reads
deep
books
with
long
words.
What
was
that
word
we—"
"These
books
are
all
scientific,"
Tom
insisted,
glancing
at
her
impatiently.
"This
guy
has
figured
it
all
out.
It's
up
to
us,
the
dominant
race,
to
be
careful,
or
other
races
will
take
over."
"We
have
to
beat
them
down,"
Daisy
whispered,
winking
fiercely
at
the
fervent
sun.
"You
should
live
in
California—"
Miss
Baker
began,
but
Tom
interrupted
by
shifting
heavily
in
his
chair.
"The
idea
is
we're
Nordics.
I
am,
you
are,
and—"
After
a
tiny
pause,
he
included
Daisy
with
a
nod,
and
she
winked
at
me
again.
"—And
we've
created
everything
that
makes
civilization—science,
art,
all
that.
Do
you
see?"
There
was
something
pathetic
in
his
focus,
as
if
his
old
complacency
wasn't
enough
anymore.
When
the
phone
rang,
and
the
butler
left
the
porch,
Daisy
seized
the
interruption
and
leaned
toward
me.
